Alcohol
Alcohol is widely accepted.
The drug of choice for most self medicators. As deadly as heroin, but legal. As available as candy, but flammable As taxed as gasoline, but drinkable. For some an occasional visit with fantasy, For others, the open door to deadly addictions. A carefree ride on a Carousel or a Slow Waltz with the Devil. It provides both. Alcohol addiction knows no boundaries, Economic, Gender, Race or Religion. Alcohol Always a companion, never a snitch. It plays on both sides of the fence. A killer of boredom and loneliness. A destroyer of dreams and aspirations. An obstructor relationship A competitor of companionship A promoter of friendships, a breeder of contempt. An organizer of thoughts, and a cause of forgetfulness. A common friend of helplessness, an enemy of authority. Bolstering self esteem, and undermining confidence. Alcohol mixes well with money and prestige. Or slowly depletes it. Alcohol provides the camaraderie of loneliness On the road to despair and prosperity, While giving many the confidence of self doubt. Poison for many, medication for others, neither for some. |
